Covid-19: closure of schools 20 March 2020

The purpose of this guidance on closure of schools is to support schools and councils to make decisions and manage the workforce implications for both teachers and school support staff as a result of the closure of their schools by the end of the school day today (20 March) for the foreseeable future for everyone apart from the children of critical workers and the most vulnerable children.

COVID-19 (CORONAVIRUS) guidance for employers and local government

The Government has published guidance for employers on advising their staff about coronavirus.

There is also new guidance for professionals who may be involved in advising or providing treatment on the coronavirus to the general public.

In addition, the National Joint Council (NJC) for Local Government Services has issued a circular that provides important advice about coronavirus COVID-19 with particular reference to terms and conditions. To assist the management of school teachers’ absences related to COVID-19, there is a reminder of the current provision set out in the Burgundy Book and further useful information.

The LGA is maintain links with Public Health England (PHE), the Department for Health and Social Care and the Ministry of Housing, Communities and Local government regarding the evolving situation with the outbreak of Coronavirus. More information on Coronavirus for councils.

Exit payments cap
On 10 April 2019, HM Treasury opened a consultation on draft regulations, Directions and guidance to implement the exit cap. The consultation will run for 12 weeks and closes on 3 July 2019. The LGA has responded ahead of the 3 July deadline:
